Vacant Elmira Heights Building Demolished
ELMIRA HEIGHTS, NY (WENY) -- A building that once housed a number of businesses over the years was torn down on Wednesday.
The building that was last home to The Flower Cart is now just a pile of rubble at 355 East 14th Street, at the corner of Grand Central Avenue.
The building had been vacant for about 20 years, as the Flower Cart closed in 2005. The building also previously housed apartments upstairs. According to property tax records, it was built in 1940.
For years, the decaying building has been called an eyesore, as it's fallen further into disrepair. According to the Elmira Heights Fire Department, Code Enforcement deemed to building a hazard, ordering its demolition.
