TOWANDA, PA (WENY) -- A former Bradford County District Attorney sentenced to prison for sexual misconduct in 2021 is now out on parole.

Forty-nine year old Chad Salsman was released from Mercer State Correctional Institution on April 21, after he was recently granted parole. Salsman had been in prison since 2021, following his arrest earlier that year, after five women accused him of sexual assault.

The victims were legal clients of Salsman's, while he was a private attorney. In 2019, he was elected Bradford County District Attorney, and was sworn in in 2020. He was DA at the time of his arrest, in February of 2021.

According to prosecutors, Salsman assaulted his victims in his private law office, which was next door to the Bradford County courthouse in downtown Towanda. The victims were women Salsman was representing in both criminal and child custody cases.

In July of 2021, Salsman was sentenced to 1.5 to five years in state prison after pleading guilty to charges of promoting prostitution, obstruction of law, and witness intimidation. He also resigned as district attorney, and was disbarred in August of 2021. As a result of his guilty plea, some of the more serious charges against him were dropped.

Salsman will remain under parole supervision until July 9, 2026. He had previously been denied parole three times; including having his parole rescinded after it was initially approved in January of 2024.
