TWIN TIERS (WENY) -- For how small they are, hummingbirds pack a real punch when it comes to birding enthusiasts. To help keep track of sightings across the world, hummingbirdcentral.com has set up an interactive map that lets people report sightings so birders can track their migration.

And while there are no local sightings as of April 22nd, hummingbirds aren't expected to make it to the Twin Tiers until sometime in May. Part of the reason the small birds are so popular isn't just how beautiful they are. On their trip back north, hummingbirds can travel up to 23 miles a day over land, with their wings flapping up to 80 times a second, sending their heart rate over 1200 beats a minute.
