UPDATE 8:30 A.M. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23RD (WENY) –-  According to NYSP, 44-year-old James W. Cunningham was arrested and charged with Assault in the First Degree, a class B felony. The charge stems from a violent altercation involving Cunningham and two other individuals. No other charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE 3:30 A.M. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23RD (WENY) -- New York State Police told WENY News that they are investigating a serious assault case. The victim was airlifted to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital.

Authorities have stated that this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

Additional information is expected from the New York State Police later this morning.

ERWIN, N.Y. (WENY) -- A police investigation is underway in Erwin.

NYSP had several homes roped off with crime scene tape on Katie Lane, just off of Beartown Road on Tuesday evening. Troopers and a state police investigator were standing outside of one home in question.

Troopers says they are actively managing the situation, but did not provide any other details.  They say this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
