Hundreds Attend Corning Community College's Regional Job Fair
CORNING, NY (WENY) -- Corning Community College's gym was buzzing with people eager to see what job opportunities awaited them on Wednesday. About 80 employers were present, ranging from law enforcement to nursing to manufacturing.
"[There are] sales jobs, manufacturing jobs, and then nursing. We have a lot more, but those are specific to our region," said the Director of Retention & Educational Planning at CCC, Tyler Ladd.
The job fair highlighted regional job opportunities within the community. Some businesses that were there included Corning Inc., Kennedy Valve, and CAF USA. CAF USA manufactures rail cars at its facility in Elmira Heights and is looking to hire.
"We have a number of support jobs open currently in our engineering department our quality department. We are hiring welders for our fabrication of the car shells [which] will be the first step of the assembly process. Then end of next year, we'll be hiring a number of assemblers, both mechanical and electrical to complete the production assembly process for those vehicles," said the Human Resources Business Partner for CAF USA, Shelley Stout.
For students who attended the job fair, CCC also showcased vocational programs for jobs that don't necessarily require a college degree.
"With our crew welding, you can be making up to $30/hour after you graduate from that program. So, you don't necessarily need a degree, to help you get there," said the Program Coordinator for the CCC Workforce Education and Community Engagement, Ericka Lehman.
If you're currently job-seeking, check out local businesses' websites to see if they're hiring.
CCC's next event is the Women's Empowerment Conference on May 21st from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The conference aims to uplift women in the Twin Tiers and will offer workshops, discussions, and networking opportunities. Tickets are $129 each.
