Seneca7 Relay on Sunday; Drivers Use Caution
GENEVA/WATKINS GLEN, NY (WENY) -- If your travels on Sunday will take you around Seneca Lake, you'll notice a lot of runners along the way.
It's the annual Seneca7 relay race; more than 2,100 runners that make up 302 teams of seven runners each. The 77.7 mile relay race begins and ends in Geneva, with runners passing through Watkins Glen at the halfway point.
Drivers should use caution, as participants are running on public roads. There may be congestion in areas of exchange points, where runners finish a leg of the relay and can hand off to the next runner in their group.
The first wave of runners will depart Lakefront Park in Geneva at 5:45 A.M., and teams are expected to pass through Clute Park in Watkins Glen from 11:40 A.M. and 1:45 P.M. The first athletes are anticipated to arrive back at the finish in Geneva around 4:30 P.M.
The race typically concludes with the final runners crossing the finish line by 8 P.M.
