SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. (WENY) -- New York State marked Arbor Day by announcing $15M in grants for urban reforestation projects.
Locally, the Tioga County Soil and Water Conservation District has been awarded over $800,000 from this initiative. These funds will be directed toward the Upper Susquehanna Coalition Forest Restoration project. As part of this effort, more than 71 acres of land will be reforested, and over 22,000 trees will be replanted.
All CoRe-funded projects will record tree planting input into DEC's Tree Tracker, the GIS tool available for the public to upload every tree planted in New York State.
