Elmira Man Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter After Shooting Death
ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- An Elmira man will serve 20 years in state prison for manslaughter, after shooting another man last June at a home in the city.
Twenty-eight year old Marcus Jones-Snyder was originally charged with second degree murder, following the shooting death of Zachary Van Horn on June 20, 2024. Police responded to a home on Grove Street for a report of a gunshot victim; Van Horn was found wounded at the scene and pronounced dead at the hospital.
A week later, police located and arrested Jones-Snyder, and charged him with murder.
According to District Attorney Weeden Wetmore, Jones-Snyder accepted a plea bargain, and pleaded guilty in February to first degree manslaughter. He was sentenced May 9 in Chemung County court to 20 years in state prison, followed by 2.5 years post-release supervision, and fines.
