Arrest Made in Oak Street Shooting in Elmira; Victim Identified in Pulaski Park Shooting
6/13 UPDATE: Elmira Police on Friday announced the arrest of a person in connection to one of the two shooting incidents in the city on Monday.
According to Elmira Police, Jayzell McCoy, 22, is charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, related to the shooting on the 900 block of Oak Street Monday night, in the area of Maxwell Place. McCoy is currently on New York State Parole, for a prior weapons conviction. He was released into parole supervision in June of 2024. Police say more charges are pending.
Police also identified the victim who died following the shooting at Pulaski Park as 31-year-old Yasean McQueen.
The shootings both occurred Monday evening, about 15 minutes apart from each other in separate locations in the city around 8PM. Police say they believe the two shootings are not related to each other, and called them isolated incidents. Between both shootings, there were five total victims, including McQueen, who passed away. The other victims suffered what police are calling non-life threatening injuries.
The two incidents Monday night follow two shots fired incidents in the city the night prior, around 11:30PM Sunday and 12:30AM Monday. In those cases, there were no apparent victims.
Monday night's shootings marked four separate shooting incidents in the city in less than 24 hours.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Elmira Police confirmed on Wednesday, June 11th that one person was killed and another injured in a shooting in the area of Pulaski Park on Monday June 9th. Police say when officers arrived around 8 p.m., they found two people with gunshot wounds, and both were transported to a nearby hospital.
Police say one of the victims was declared dead, and the other was treated for what police say are non-life threatening injuries.
Shortly after at 8:15 p.m., police say they got a another call for gunshots on Oak Street. When officers arrived, Police say they found one person struck by gunfire, and that two others had already left the scene to seek medical treatment.
Police say all three victims suffered non-life threatening injuries, and have been interviewed by police. At this time, police say they believe the shootings to be isolated incidents that are not related to one another. Police also stressed that there is no threat to the general public.
