Deadly tornado touches down in Central New York

CLARK MILLS, N.Y. (WENY) -- A deadly tornado touched down in the morning hours of Sunday, June 22 in Clark Mills, New York. The National Weather Service in Binghamton has confirmed an E-F 1 tornado with maximum winds of 105 MPH had traveled more than two miles.
Numerous trees were uprooted or snapped and three homes were sliced or crushed by trees. Two residents were killed in one of the houses while a third fatality occurred at another residence.
The Oneida County Sheriff's Office identified the three victims as 50 year old Shelly Johnson of Millstream Court and six year old twin sisters Emily and Kenni Bisson of Hoyland Avenue. That makes this the third deadliest tornado on record in New York's history.
The second deadliest tornado was July 8th, 2014, where a E-F 2 tornado touched down in Smithfield, New York just 2 miles to the northeast of Peterboro. Four fatalities were reported. Three homes were destroyed and 5 additional homes sustained significant damage.
The deadliest tornado in New York State history was on November 16th, 1989, where an E-F 1 tornado touched down in Monroe, New York and traveled around 9 miles to Coldenham. Nine people were killed and eighteen people were injured, causing $25 million in property damages.
