BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Pro Action of Steuben and Yates, Inc. has been awarded $2,530,907 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for Head Start Projects. Local Congressman Nick Langworthy celebrated the move on Tuesday, June 24, saying the funds will specifically go to Head Start Projects in Bath.

“Head Start programming is essential to families in our community and this funding will ensure children have the best opportunity to learn and be nurtured. I am excited to see this program flourish with federal assistance," said local Congressman Nick Langworthy.

Head Start is a free early childhood program designed to help kids in low income families by offering childhood program designed to help kids in low income families. In April, President Trump's early budget draft called for the elimination of the program.

That led to concerns at the head start location in Montour Falls that there would be steep cuts and layoffs. But across America, advocates and families started advocating for the program.

The latest budget proposal on Capitol Hill doesn't have any changes to the multi-billion dollar program.
