Three local students win nursing scholarships sponsored by CareFirstNY and WENY-TV
COOPERS PLAINS, N.Y. (WENY) -- The United States is expected to experience a shortage of Registered Nurses as our population ages, and the Twin Tiers is no different. To help make a dent in that issue locally, WENY-TV and CareFirstNY teamed up to give three local students $1,000 scholarships to pursue a career in nursing.
"This is fantastic, to be able to have the partnership to be able to pour into students, to help support their future goals and endeavors, obviously there is an ongoing nursing shortage nationally, also in particular in this area this is very rural part of the state, and we are just so happy to be able to provide this scholarship tor these students," said Phoebe Reynolds, CareFirstNY Chief Executive Officer.
The three students picked were Trystan Robbs, Noelle Harpster and Julia Lopez. Robbs and Harpster got their checks in a ceremony on Wednesday, June 25th. The three were selected by a committee based on academic excellence, service to the community and more.
CarefirstNY is a hospice agency that provides end of life care to patients across Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben Counties.
