Catholic Charities of Chemung & Schuyler Counties Hosts Annual Summer Event
ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Over 100 people came to Catholic Charities of Chemung and Schuyler Counties Samaritan Center on Thursday for its annual 'Summer Event.' The event allowed kids and families to get the resources they might need for the summer.
"[It's] a way to celebrate that school is over, summer has started, and to give parents and kids resources for the summer. We want families to know the Samaritan Center's Food Pantry is here for them, especially [in] the summer it can be tough," said the Marketing and Development Director for Catholic Charities of Chemung & Schuyler Counties, Katie Rhodes.
Kids could pick out toys and new books and adults could pick out clothes and shoes. People could also grab food they might need like bread and produce.
While some kids had fun getting their faces painted, parents could learn about local resources available to them.
"There [are] lots of resources in our area... If it’s something that we don’t do, we can usually refer [people] to someone who does. If you’re not sure where to start, start here. We can get you food because everybody needs to eat and then we can see what else we can help you with," said Rhodes.
The Catholic Charities Samaritan Center is located on S. Main St. in Elmira. It's open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
