BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WENY) — Harris Hill is gearing up to host the 2025 National Glider Competition. The ten-day event will feature two dozen gliders racing over the skies of Chemung County and the rest of the Twin Tiers.

Competitions will be judged based on different distances, times, landing locations, and more.

You may already see some gliders in the skies on June 29 and 30, as pilots have two practice days before the event. Volunteers at Harris Hill said there is a lot to look forward to.

"You can come watch 24 different gliders from people that are all over the country come and fly their gliders and do tasks and all fun things," said event volunteer Emily Meissner.

The event runs from July 1 through July 10, with planes and gliders running from around 12:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

The public is invited to attend and watch the show. Takeoff happens from the runway next to the National Soaring Museum at Harris Hill in Big Flats.
