ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Two people are hospitalized with gunshot wounds, after an incident on Elmira's south side early Saturday morning.

Elmira Police said officers were called to the scene of a large disturbance involving a gun just after 1 A.M., in the area of Broadway Avenue and Mt. Zoar Street. When officers arrived on scene, a crowd of more than 100 people were there, and a male gunshot victim was on the ground being tended to by several people.

Police say as other officers arrived, a black truck was spotted speeding away from the area. Officers followed the truck to the hospital, where they say the male driver had a gunshot wound to the thigh.

According to EPD, the victim on the ground, who was shot in the abdomen, was the target of the shooting; the second victim was a bystander who was hit by a stray bullet.

At this time, police did not say if anyone was in custody.
