ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) — Hundreds of people filled Eldridge Park on Saturday, July 5, for the annual Party in the Park celebration. The event has been bringing people together for generations.

"We come down to enjoy the party in the park, watch the fireworks tonight," said Annette from Corning, who was there with her family. "We try to come down every year. I've been coming here since I was a little kid, so I have to come down."

With an assortment of food trucks, vendors, and live music, people are taking the day after the Fourth of July to celebrate. For many, Party in the Park is just another part of their Fourth of July weekend.

"Yes, yes. Yes, we do. Very much so," said Tina and Donald from Elmira when asked if this was part of their tradition. "Because that's why we come over to enjoy the park and to meet new people."

The event is not just vendors and food trucks. All the classic Eldridge Park attractions are open as well. The boats on the lake cast off with people, the thunderbirds flew kids through the sky, and of course, people took a few trips around the historic carousel.

"Riding the carousel, that's the best part of the park," said Theresa when asked what she was looking forward to at the event.

"I'm here to enjoy the rides, enjoy the weather, the fireworks, and just enjoy some good old family time," said Robert Jr.

Organizers described the event as a "Rocking day in the park." Adding that there's something there for the whole family.

As the night draws to a close, many people at Eldridge Park say they're looking forward to the annual fireworks show.

"Definitely the fireworks, they put on a good show," said Bob from Corning.

The event goes until 9:00 p.m. with the fireworks starting around 9:30 p.m.

Parking is available in a few different locations. The west parking lot is reserved for handicapped parking, while the north parking lot is open to anyone. There will also be buses to take people to and from the fireworks from the Wegmans parking lot located on Clemens Center Parkway.
