Water Testing Underway at Acid Spill Site
LEROY TWP., PA (WENY) -- More tonight on last week's acid spill at a Northern Tier natural gas wellpad.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection continues to supervise cleanup of 4,700 gallons of hydrochloric acid that spilled at the Chief Oil and Gas Yoder well pad in Leroy last week. Today, the DEP is collecting water samples from wells at homes near the drilling site. Test results are expected in a few weeks.
Towanda Creek and a tributary are also being monitored. Seventy-five percent of the soil affected by the spill has been excavated for disposal.
