Charges Against Seager Funeral Home Owner Dropped
David Seager Mentally Unfit for Trial
BATH (WENY) -- The criminal case against a former Steuben County funeral home owner has been dismissed.
Judge Joseph Latham dismissed the charges against 73-year-old David Seager, who owned the Seager Funeral Homes in Savona and Bath. He was arrested in 2010, after authorities recovered two bodies and cremated remains of more than a dozen people.
Seager was later indicted on multiple counts of grand larceny, scheme to defraud, and petit larceny for allegedly taking money for prepaid funeral arrangements, and keeping it for himself.
According to the law firm representing Seager, his health and mental state has deteriorated to the point where he is unfit to stand trial. The judge dismissed the charges in the interest of justice.
