Road Safety Becomes a Priority in Chemung Co.

Road Safety Becomes a Priority in Chemung Co.

Chemung County Emergency Crews received over one thousand emergency calls in two hours following yesterday's line of storms.

Officials say crews responded efficiently and luckily, no one is reported dead or injured. Right now, officials are focused on keeping the streets safe.

Mike Smith from the Emergency Management Department says, "Our primary focus this morning has been to ensure that all roads in the city are open and passable with at least one driving lane. We are not talking about having the road completely clear but we are talking about one driving lane to have the road clear to emergency vehicles."

Once the roads a clear so emergency vehicles can pass through, they'll focus on getting both lanes back open to travelers. Smith says this will take time and he asks all residents to remain patient.
