ECSD Fundraiser Raises $1800
ELMIRA, NY (WENY)---Organizers of the "Keep the Cool in School" fundraiser say this weekends fundraising activites were a success.
The walkathon and festival at Eldridge Park raised nearly $2,000 in an effort to save jobs and programs in the Elmira City School District.Organizers say while the $1,800 dollars they raised may not save a job or electives in the school district, every dollar counts.
The fundraiser comes after more than 120 jobs were cut in the school district. The district made the cuts after a multi-million dollar budget shortfall.
Organizers took to Facebook to thank everyone who came out this weekend. Between the walk-a-thon, food sales, activities, raffles and direct donations, organizers have $1,800 to donate to Elmira City schools.
Organizers say hundreds of books were sold, four dozen door prizes were raffled off and nearly every pizzeria in the area donated food. The weekend's festivitites were sponsored by the non-profit group, Friends of the Elmira City School District.
Although they did not reach their goal, organizers are staying positive. They plan on raising more money through the rest of the summer.
