Hornell Post Office Will Honor Zachary Smith

Zach Smith
HORNELL (WENY) --   The U.S. Postal Service has reversed its decision, and will allow local Marine Zachary Smith's name to go outside the Hornell Post Office branch.  Smith of Hornell died in action in Afghanistan back in January of 2010.

His family tried to get his name put on the post office earlier this year, but federal regulations didn't allow it.  Congressman Tom Reed and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand worked together to get that changed, and more than 40,000 people signed a petition in favor of the posting.

His name will now be placed outside the building, in addition to a plaque already inside the post office.
