July 4th Safety

Saftey on July Fourth

July 4th, 2012

Twin Tiers (WENY) - Families throughout the twin tiers are celebrating our independence day., and police are reminding everyone to celebrate today safely. With fire works and more drivers on the road, safety is key to a happy independence day. The most important thing to remember is there are a lot more people out, so be careful when you hit the road. Elmira police say they see emergency calls increase today and the week leading up to July 4th. Remember, Fireworks in new york are illegal unless you have a permit. f you are caught with a small amount of fireworks, you'll be charged with a violation. If you plan to sell illegal fireworks, you can face criminal charge.

Sargent Tim Dacey from the Elmira Police Department says, “In general avoid any fireworks you can't legally posses them. If you're out driving just use some common courtesy for other drivers on the road, it's going to be an increased amount of traffic. A number of families going to and from vacation so just general common courtesy on the road today.”
