Local Projects Recieve State Funding
ELMIRA, NY (WENY)---Three local projects will receive state funding from Governor Andrew Cuomo's regional economic council initiative. The governor hopes these multi-million dollar projects will help revitalize communities.
The local projects are in Ithaca, Big Flats and Corning. They're part of a bigger award announced by the governor. $8-million in state funding has been awarded to the 10 total projects.
In Big Flats, $1.3 million in state funding will help build infrastructure on 200 acres of land adjacent to the Elmira-Corning Regional Airport. The project known as Airport Corporate Park South will help recruit businesses like customer service centers and call centers. Officials hope more than 500 jobs wll be created there.
On Corning's Market Street, a $325,000 loan will help in creating four new housing units and one commercial space. The money will also help renovate a building in the Gaffer district.
In Ithaca, a half-million dollar loan will help renovate a 40-year old building where a new elevator will be installed and five new apartments will be created.
