Tompkins Co. Property Taxes Could Rise
ITHACA, NY (WENY)---Taxpayers in Tompkins County may see their taxes increases for 2013 if the county administrator gets his way.
Joe Mareane delivered the 2013 county budget and he's proposing a 3.5-percent tax levy goal. That's an $18 dollar tax increase for most property owners.
Administrator Mareane says even though taxes would be raised, the budget is the first in four years to reflect stability. This property tax increase is the lowest proposed increased in the past 15 years.
If this budget passes, spending increases 0.4-percent to $164.8 million. The property tax rate would rise by 11 cents to $6.78-cents per $1,000 dollars assessed value.
