Lybia (WENY) - The Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zeidan was kidnapped by gunmen from his hotel in Tripoli where he was living, but has since been freed. The abduction happened early Thursday morning. Gunmen broke into the luxury hotel in downtown Tripoli where Zeidan lives and abducted him and two of his guards.
The Associated Press reports that Libya's powerful Islamic militant groups and interim government officials are upset with the US over a special forces raid on Saturday. That raid captured a Libyan al-Qaida suspect, known as Abu Anas al-Libi earlier this week.
Some believe the kidnapping is retaliation for that raid. Several groups accused the government of allowing the raid, even though the government denied having any prior knowledge of the operation.
The Prime Minister has since been freed.
