Twin Tiers (WENY) - We all got a taste of March Madness last night, but how much does the all this craziness hurt the US economy when workers are distracted by the games going on all afternoon?

According to an outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas says , employers can expect worker productivity to plummet. The firm said it expects companies to lose $1.2 billion for every unproductive work hour during the first week of the tournament.

The firm warns that employers can expect slower Internet if workers stream games online on their computers or mobile devices.

But here's the good news everyone! Despite the loss in productivity, companies shouldn't crack down on employees following the tournament. The annual event actually boosts office morale.
