Boating For A Cure Kick Off This Weekend
MONTOUR FALLS (WENY) -- If you're out around Seneca Lake this weekend, you may see a small fleet of colorful boats.
That's because The 4th annual, Boating For A Cure kicks off tomorrow morning to raise money for cancer research and treatment.
The creators of Boating for a cure say this event gets bigger and bigger each year. They are expecting close to 30 boats out at Montour Falls Marina tomorrow morning.
There is a $15 dollar donation which includes boat registrations and a boating for a cure t-shirt for the captain.
Those who are participating in the event can arrive as early 7am to register and decorate their boat to show which cancer they are raising money for.
Norman knight and his wife Joyce have always been part of relay for life but decided to start boating for a cure to honor the family members they lost throughout the years to cancer.
"It's just something we are passionate about," said Knight. "We're encouraged to keep going to have more birthdays."
"The first year we brought in $1,000, second year was 15 and last year we got two. This year, we're looking to beat last year's," said Knight.
This will a 2 hour boat ride at 10:30, At the end their will be a picnic at Montour Falls Marina.
All proceeds from tomorrow's event will go to the American Cancer Society.
