NYE Crystals on Display at CMoG

CORNING - [WENY] With just a couple of hours away from the new year, Wednesday night's center of attention will be the crystal ball dropping in Times Square in New York City. But in the Crystal City, pieces from former crystal balls are on display.
The Corning Museum of Glass has 51 New Years Eve Waterford Crystals on display in the Glass Market. With the crystals being replaced every year, the retired triangles make up just a small portion of the internally illuminated ball. The 2014 New Years Eve ball is composed of more than 2,500 crystals, and 32,000 LED lights.
Rob Cassetti, Senior Director, Creative Services & Marketing for Corning Museum of Glass said, "I thought I was ready to see it, but when it arrived and we started unpacking it and assembling it, it was a little like New Years Eve a month an a half ahead of time. So it was really exciting to put it together and have it on view, and visitors have really responded to it."
The New Years Eve Waterford crystal display at CMoG ends January 10th.
