Corning Graduations Mark End Of An Era

CORNING (WENY) -- The graduating class from Corning East and West High made history this weekend.
The long time rivalry will come to an end Starting this fall --
And The two schools will merge together and become the Corning - Painted Post High School.
The sports teams have already combined under the Hawks name, but the two schools still operated separately as the Vikings and Trojans.
But now it's time for a change.
"East high has had a really rich history and it's been really exciting to be apart of that," Lindsey Prutsman, Salutatorian of the East High Graduating class.  "Also start the new traditions in the new high school."
Many students from East and West are legacies.
Parents and Even grandparents have walked the very same halls.
So for those students, graduation means history.
"All the people that we know that have gone through here. Especially, many of my family members have come through here," Seneca Anastasio, East High Senior Class President. "So for us it's a very inspirational moment."
As these graduates close one chapter, the district begins a new one as Corning East transforms into the new high school.
East High senior class advisor Maggie Bush has been a guidance counselor for the school for 19 years and is ready for the merger.
"Change is exciting," said Bush. "It keeps us fresh. It keeps us all excited about new endeavors. I think we're ready. We've dreamed about it and talked about it for a long time."
Now there's no more GO Vikings and no more GO trojans but go Hawks!
