Steuben County (WENY) - People working for the Office of Community Services in Steuben County are fighting too keep things the way they are, so they can keep helping people across the county. Right now the county provides Drug and Alcohol services, constant care, and mental health services to children and adults across the county. Nearly 2,000 people use the programs, based in Hornell, Corning and Bath. The county legislature is trying to cut costs, and considering plans to privatize the programs, and consolidate the buildings into one location in Bath. Considering Steuben County covers more square miles than the state of Rhode Island, Dave Morsch from “Save Human Services” group is concerned about clients getting to the help they need.
“With these patience and one of the things about treating mental health is consistency,” says Morsch. “When you break that consistency that can have detrimental effect on people's mental health and the treatment they've come to depend on.”
The group, "Save Steuben Human Services", is planning to protest in front of Steuben County offices before the county legislature meeting on November 26th.
