ITHACA (WENY) -- A kitchen fire broke out in the middle of the night inside a home in Ithaca. Many saying the family inside is lucky to be here today.
Three people at 315 North Geneva Street in the City of Ithaca woke up to the smell of smoke. When Ithaca firefighters arrived smoke was pouring out the door.
Ithaca police and firefighters were able to get the three people out and put out the fire in the first floor kitchen. They are not able to return to their home today because of the extend of the damage.
The cause is being investigated. But there were no working smoke detectors in the home. The Ithaca Fire Department reminds everyone how important it is to have a working smoke detector outside the bedrooms and on every level of their home
