Lyme Disease On The Rise
In 2012, New York State had more than 2,000 confirmed cases of Lyme Disease, with Pennsylvania having more than double that amount.
The New York State Department of Health caught 50 ticks at the Newtown Battlefield in Chemung County in 2012. More than half of the ticks that were caught tested positive for bacteria that can cause Lyme Disease.
Here are a couple of tips to help prevent Lyme Disease in you and or your family.
- Always wear light colored clothing while outside, it will help by making it easier to spot ticks stuck to clothing.
- Always check for ticks after you or a loved one was outside, especially if coming back from wooded areas.
- And use insect repellant.
