Veteran-Owned Business Act

New York (WENY) - Businesses owned by disabled veterans will be in line for a share of state contracts under a bill signed into law Monday by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
     T
he Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Business Act requires the state create rules and regulations to oversee a new program that will set aside 6 percent of contracts. But a business must be owned by a veteran or veterans with a disability stemming from their time in the armed services. The federal goal is set at 3 percent of contracts.

Some believe this will go a long way to offsetting veteran unemployment in the state.
