Signs of Improvement for Elmira
The New York State Department of Labor released preliminary local area unemployment rates for March 2014.

ELMIRA (WENY) -- Elmira's unemployment rate has improved since last year going from 9% in 2013 to 7.6% now.
According to figures released Tuesday by the State Labor Department while the number of unemployed people in Chemung County dropped from 3,500 to 2,900, the number of employed also dropped.
The Ithaca region had the state's lowest unemployment rate in March at 4.4%, a drop from 5% one year ago.
Steuben County's unemployment rate in March was 8.3% percent, a drop from 10.1% one year ago.
Rates are calculated following procedures prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The state’s unemployment rate relies in part on the results of a telephone survey of 3,100 households (out of more than 7 million) in New York State.
