Southside Rising Snag
The state has stopped funding
ELMIRA N.Y--WENY-TV-- This city was hoping to finance part of the project through the state "brownfield opportunity areas" program. The program provides funding of up to 90 percent of the total costs of redeveloping distressed areas. Southside Rising was not included in the 2014 New York State budget, because several if not all BOA projects were stopped by the state. Even though Southside rising IS 2 of 3 steps through the BOA program. At tonight's city council meeting the council added and passed an emergency resolution to ask the state to restore the funding. WENY spoke with both Jennifer Miller from the city and Councilman Dan Royle about losing the funding. They were both unhappy that the funding had stopped while the project was in progress.
