Town of Ithaca Housing Development
ITHACA - [WENY] The Ithaca Town Board was presented with plans for a new housing development on Monday night. The development would bring roughly 216 housing units right off Troy Road on South Hill.
The units would be a mix of rental apartments, and single family homes, to cater to an underserved market in the area.
Scott Whitham, with Whitham Planning & Design said, "Empty nesters are an important part of this market, young professionals, young families are some of the targets. Middle class housing, that is really missing in this market."
Even though the design and layout are still in the preliminary design phase, the proposal would cluster the housing units together, while preserving the rural setting around the development.
Whitham said, "In our proposal, 216 units right now, fairly clustered, keeping a great deal of the open space, probably about from our latest planning's, 70 percent of our open space, open and not developed."
The Town Board voted to move the proposal onto the planning committee, bringing the neighborhood one step closer to a possible ground breaking.
