Corning (WENY) - There was some good news for Guthrie today. The final construction beam for the new Corning hospital was celebrated today with a bunch of signatures. Guthrie employees from the current corning hospital as well as public figures like New York Assemblyman Phil Palmesano all got to sign a piece of local history. The signing of the last beam is a tradition for large projects like this, but also signifies the start of the next phase of construction. Corning Hospital President Shirley Magana says it's a great way to keep everyone excited about the project.
“This is a moment that so many people in this community have been waiting for and to be able to do something like this says its another step to opening this new corning hospital,” says Magana. “It's going to be a much better environment for our patients and for their families as well as physicians and staff to work in, and it's just a really exciting moment.”
The construction for the new hospital is expected to be finished by the summer of 2014
