ELMIRA (WENY) -- A project two years in the making has finally come to life at Eldridge Park in Elmira.
A gazebo was built in honor of fallen Chemung County Sheriff's Deputy Jeffrey Alexander. Deputy Alexander died in a vehicle accident while on duty three years ago.
Today, his family and friends spent the day planting flowers surrounding the Gazebo and getting it ready for public use.
Brian Alexander, Jeffrey’s brother, says Eldridge Park has always been a special place for Alexander family, so they were excited to see their project coming to completion.
“It's incredible. It's an affirmation of what Jeff did. You know he really would have loved to see something like this. You know he went out everyday working his butt off to help the community and care for the people. And you know this place meant a lot to him. So to see it finally come to fruition is just fantastic. You know a lot of hard work has gone into it,” says Alexander.
The Gazebo is located next to the mini golf course and is officially open to the public.
