October 18, 2013
ELMIRA HEIGHTS -- (WENY) US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand came to the area today, specifically to visit a local manufacturing plant that has been making glass for over 100 years. The Ardagh Group, formally known as Anchor Glass welcomed the Senator and showed her around the plant.
She took a tour of the one million square foot manufacturing plant, which makes more than 2.8 million bottles of glass every day for the food and beverage industry.
Local Plant Manager John Pradon says they haven't had a US Senator visit the plant in 10 or 15 years and they were all so excited to welcome Gillibrand.
The 100 year old plant has 334 employees and a payroll of 26 million dollars.
All the vendors are local, Which is something Gillibrand was excited to see.
"This is a very inspiring manufacturer. I think the work they do here is incredible. I think the pride of the employees shows not only in the products but in how amazing this manufacturing facility looks," said Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
Plant Manager John Pradon said, "this means an awful lot to us and our employees. Everyone is proud of this plant. And I'm awful proud of this plant. The teamwork involved to make this thing happen and be as successful as we are, takes the entire team."
Gillibrand was joined by union representatives, regional economic development and local elected officials.
