New Horseheads Trustee Adjusting to Job
HORSEHEADS (WENY) -- The newest member to the Horseheads Village Board of Trustees attended her first meeting Thursday in her new position. Caitlin McGurgan was sworn in Tuesday as a new trustee, filling the position left open by Larry Clark, who passed away unexpectedly in February.
She's been working in the state court system but this is her first time working in local government. At 28, McGurgan is the youngest on the board. She hopes her youth will bring some new ideas to the village.
"I know Larry left a spot on the board for sure but in a way I'm going to forge my own though," says McGurgan. "I really want to do whatever I can to move Horseheads in a positive direction."
"She cares about Horseheads and she wants to steer it into the future...that's what sold me," said mayor Don Zeigler.
Mcgurgan is looking forward to bringing a woman's perspective to the board...she's the only female trustee. The next meeting is a budget workshop scheduled for next Friday, April 4.
