Post Offices to be Renamed After Fallen Soldiers

“I would be remised if I knew anyone who would not support this. A fallen hero is someone to be remembered,” says the New York State Veterans of Foreign Affairs Commander.
Specialist Ryan Jayne was just 22 years old when he was killed November 3, 2012 in Afghanistan, when his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device. Jayne graduated from Corning East High School in 2008, and attended Corning Community College before enlisting in the Army in 2010.
The effort to rename the two post offices required congressional approval. Congressmen Tom Reed and Senator Kirstin Gillibrand say renaming the post offices in their honor is just one small way the United States can honor their bravery and service to their country.
And Corning isn't the only community whose post office will be re-named to honor a soldier who died while serving our country.
In Tyrone in Schuyler County, the Post Office on County Road 23 will also be renamed after 21-year-old Army Specialist Christopher Scott. Scott was killed in Afghanistan on September 3rd, 2011. He was a 2009 graduate of Dundee High School.
