Twin Tiers (WENY) Get those binoculars ready! The 17th annual Great Backyard Bird Count is set for this year.
Birders from more than 100 countries are expected to help count. Information gathered by bird count volunteers will help track the general health of bird species and identify the hot spots where species are concentrated.
Last year More than 34.5 million birds and more than 3,600 species were recorded, and nearly one-third of the world's total bird species were documented in just four days. Anyone who wants to help just has to count birds for at least 15 minutes from Feb. 14 to 17. Go to BirdCount.org for more information about the count and report sightings.
