2013 Preliminary Deer Hunting Results
December 23, 2013
SOUTHERN TIER (WENY) -- The preliminary results for New York's 2013 deer hunting season are in and it looks like hunters killed slightly more deer than last year. That's according to state wildlife manager tallying the results. But they say its not enough to meet population reduction goals in targeted areas.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation says the number of deer killed in the Southern Zone is about 1% higher than last year.
The agency was trying to increase the number of antlerless deer killed to reduce population in many areas. They say they'll most likely need higher antlerless harvests over the next few years to achieve population reduction goals.
