National Flood Safety Week

March 20, 2014
Twin Tiers (WENY) - The Southern Tier is no stranger to flooding, and this week the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration wants to get everyone prepared.

This week is National Flood Safety Awareness Week. On average, flooding causes more property damage in the United States than any other weather related event. It's a threat that can occur in any of the fifty states at any time of year.

The first step to making sure you and your family are safe is to know the risk. Go to weather.gov and floodsmart.gov to learn about your area, your flood risk and flood insurance available. Second make a plan. Last, share your experience with neighbors, so they are also prepared.
