New York (WENY) - A New York state lawmaker is pressing for a ban on youth football. Assemblyman Michael Benedetto from the Bronx wants to ban tackle football for some youth. Benedetto first introduced a ban in February, that law limited tackle football to kids older than 11.
That legislation was blocked and Thursday he said he will introduce new legislation to put the ban at under age 14. He is claims the health risks are increasing and should be acknowledged. Youth as young as 5 years old can play organized tackle football, and it's supervised by coaches without keeping score. New York this year enacted a concussion law that requires a doctor's note to play if a player suffers a concussion.
