Obama Supports Same-Sex Marriage
ALBANY (WENY)--In a move much longed for by his Democratic base, President Obama shifted gears and came out in support of gay marriage.
He is now the first U.S. President to support same-sex marriage.
Obama says he still believes that states should decide how to handle the issue but he's confident Americans will go more comfortable with same-sex marriage.
New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, supports the President.
In a statement he said, "I think his voice will give people yet another reason to analyze the issue and be open to the issue and I think its an exiting development and once again I applaud the president's courage."
Republican Presidential candidate, Mitt Romney reiterated his opposition to same sex marriage saying he still believes marriage is between a man and a woman.
