Morning Show Videographer/Technical Director

WENY TV, the ABC, CBS and CW affiliate in Horseheads, New York, has an opening in its news department for a videographer and technical director.

This role includes filming and editing video for the news department's two hour live morning newscast, and directing the broadcast as well.

The ideal candidate should have experience in video editing, using Adobe Premiere or similar program. We're looking for a motivated self-starter, with a focus on attention to detail who can also work under tight deadlines, and changing situations.

You'll be joining a tight-knit news team that's focused on a quality news product. Our morning news crew is dedicated to providing information to viewers that helps them prepare for their day.

WENY News is also a proud, award-winning team dedicated to local news that impacts the Twin Tiers community. WENY is located in Upstate New York`s beautiful Finger Lakes region, within a few hours drive of many major cities, including New York City, Philadelphia, Buffalo, Toronto and Washington, DC.

The ideal candidate will showcase his or her entrepreneurial and strategic expertise by building collaborative relationships and providing results driven customer solutions through an integrated suite of media platforms- including television, internet, mobile and additional emerging products.


This position requires an energetic and strategic entrepreneur. As an Account Executive, you'll use a consultative selling approach to build relationships with businesses to sell a broad set of solutions from our extensive market-leading portfolio:

  • ABC,CBS + CW network affiliates
  • Targeted Display Advertising (Banner Advertising)
  • Web Presence Optimization, including services for Organic Search (SEO) 
  • Marketing and Reputation Management
  • Email marketing

Roles and Responsibilities

  • This position will be accountable for local television and digital revenue performance; working both strategically and tactically with other sales executives in the station and division.
  • Prospect for qualified local and regional businesses
  • Meet with prospective clients to conduct thorough customer needs analysis (C N A)
  • Build out solution based programs specifically designed to solve client needs/challenges
  • Present and close tailored marketing programs 
  • Create new relationships 
  • Accurately project revenues & meet / exceed monthly budgets
  • Follow accountabilities set forth by your Sales Manager to help guide you to success achieving monthly sales quotas consistently
  • Provide insight and value to executive management to shape the future of our organization
  • This individual is responsible for driving new television and digital sales (by assessing and facilitating the use of best practices in solutions based selling), up-sell of existing account advertisers, while driving retention.
  • This individual will be responsible for order entry and maintenance of advertising schedules.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience selling television/digital preferred.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in marketing or advertising.
  • Sales experience in television, digital or media industry preferred.
  • Excellent communicator who can communicate and sell ideas and solutions.
  • Must have strong time management and organizational skills; candidate must be able to work in a fast paced, high-pressured, evolving environment. 
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills required.
  • Be able to utilize Wide Orbit Traffic + Wide Orbit Media Sales or be willing to learn
  • Professional appearance is a must

WENY TV has an excellent opportunity for an Entry Level Sales Account Executive. We are looking for someone to help achieve their business objectives through effective TV and digital advertising. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, an enthusiastic and passionate personality, have a tenacious yet empathetic attitude, and a drive to succeed! 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • General administrative tasks as needed
  • Professionally formatted and written documents, including emails
  • Keep current on all of the company’s TV and digital advertising products
  • Order entry and maintenance of advertising schedules
  • Assist in the collection of past due accounts 
  • Develop advertising concepts and ideas
  • Create short and long-term client campaign plans
  • Prepare, negotiate and implement client media buys
  • Understand demographic data as it relates to media buys
  • Develop new business through selling commercial advertising time and other station products by contacting local advertisers
  • Contribute to client proposals and other client documentation
  • Maintain and build positive customer relationships

Senior Lead Engineer

Lilly Broadcasting has an opening for a full-time Senior Lead Engineer located in Horseheads, NY.

The Broadcast Engineer operates, maintains, updates and repairs hardware and systems used for broadcasting and local news production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains all broadcast technology and equipment for the station.
  • Maintains and installs the IT network, switches, data backups, work stations, laptops and printers.
  • Maintains all News gathering field gear and editing equipment.
  • Maintain RF, satellite and fiber transport equipment
  • Purchase and maintain inventory of spare parts and supplies with approval from Lilly Broadcasting Management.
  • Install wiring and equipment for new systems based on standards set by Lilly Broadcasting.
  • Communicates with members of the engineering team and other departments and Lilly Hub Stations to effectively resolve equipment and system issue
  • Maintains over the air transmitter which includes compliance with all FCC guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements and Skills:

  • Technical degree in Digital Electronics, Broadcasting, Information Technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Proficiency with computers, Master Control Automation, Windows7, SQL12, and Cisco Networking
  • Experience with video cameras, A/V routing and patching, audio equipment, graphics systems, and editing systems.
  • Familiarity with digital transmitters, microwave equipment, satellite antennas /receivers and other broadcast-related equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Must be able and willing to work different shifts in emergency situations and be flexible with schedule
  • May require some travel to remote locations including, microwave receive sites, fiber hub sites, cable headends and other locations.
