ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- "Two days ago, on October 10th at approximately 6:15 in the morning, we got a report of an individual exposing himself near the intersection of Davis and West First Street," says Sgt. William Solt of the Elmira Police Department.
And within just about 24 hours, even more reports came in.
Between October 10th and 11th, Elmira Police responded to a total of four similar incidents between the hours of 6:15 and 8:00 a.m.--all involving a man wearing a long coat and ski mask on Elmira's west side.
Those incidents were reported on the 300 block of Davis Street, the 500 block of Columbia Street and the 400 block of West Third Street.
But even after that string of incidents, officers received word yesterday of reports on both Logan and West Water Street--all without a clear picture of the suspect.
"One individual did see him without the mask," says Solt. "We believe it's either a light-skinned or white male, likely a bald head or close-shaved head [and] some reports say he's fit or in good condition."
Police say they are working with security footage from one residence, but are also asking the public to be alert and observant.
"[It helps us,] the better witness you are," says Solt. "[Paying attention to] directions of travel, if they might have particular tattoos [or] clothing. Call 911, hopefully we can get there before the person leaves the area. When you yell out the window, obviously they're going to run."
