DEVELOPING: Shots fired in Elmira early Sunday morning

ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- The Elmira Police Department says officers responded to four separate incidents in the city early Sunday morning.

They say the first incident happened around 12:20 AM, near the area of West Avenue and Mount Zoar Street. When officials arrived on the scene, they found one person who suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Officials learned the individual was crossing West Avenue to go to a bar when they were struck by the gunfire. The individual was transported to a local hospital and was treated for non-life threatening injuries before being released. 

Officials say the second incident started as a domestic incident in the Arnot Ogden Hospital parking lot and continued at the 600 block of W. Gray St. around 1:30 AM. Officers were advised that the suspect showed a gun when he was confronted by others. After investigation, Officers arrested Justin M. Terrio and confiscated a loaded handgun. Terrio is charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony. Terrio is currently awaiting arrangement in the Elmira lock-up.

Officers responded the report of a shooting at a residence located at the 400 block of W. Gray St. just before 4 AM. Upon arrival, officers found discovered an individual who sustained a gunshot wound. The individual was immediately brought to a local hospital where they later died. Officials say several people were found at the scene, but none of them would cooperate. Investigators are still pursuing leads. 

The final incident occurred around 5:45 AM when officers responded to a reported gunshot at a residence at the 200 block of W. Chemung Pl. Officers interviewed the caller and several other people who reported hearing a gunshot. Officers checked the area, but no physical evidence was found.
