Health fair teaches residents how to live a long life

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Residents met with local organizations about ways to improve their quality of life at the annual Diabetes Health Fair.

The fair was hosted by the Southern Tier Diabetes Coalition at the Arnot Mall.

Visitors could talk to local health organizations, get free health screenings and even get their flu shot.

Members of Arnot-Ogden and Guthrie were also on hand to assist visitors with their health needs.

"This is a great opportunity to be face-to-face with the experts in all these different areas and it's a comfortable setting," said Steuben County Cancer Services Program Director, Sherry Degaetano. "You can talk to somebody as long as you like. You're not limited by time and then there's a lot of hands on things that you don't get at a doctors office."

The fair aims at providing residents with information and tools about how to live a long and healthy life.

"I think the goal of today's event is for people to come and learn and walk away with more accurate information than they came with," said Degaetano.
